This is an hourly temporary position starting in August 2019. This position will work a flexible work schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.  Hours vary seasonally.  It is classified as temporary/part-time and does not include state benefits. Recommended applicant will be subject to a background check.

Division Information:

The mission of the North Carolina Aquariums is to inspire appreciation and conservation of North Carolina’s aquatic environments. This mission is achieved by attracting, retaining and developing a world class team of professionals; providing visitors with outstanding exhibits, experiences and customer service; practicing sustainability, internal customer service and fiscal responsibility; and working to save and restore aquatic species and habitats. 

The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher, located 20 miles south of Wilmington, NC, in Kure Beach, overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and Cape Fear river. A living collection of over 2,700 animals in 93,000 ft2 of exhibit space attracts and engages over 440,000 visitors each year. The Aquarium is surrounded by protected woodland, marsh and beach. Visitors often plan to stop at sites adjacent to the Aquarium - Fort Fisher State Recreation Area and historic Fort Fisher Civil War museum. Fort Fisher Aquarium is a unique place to visit, and work.

Description of Work and Job Requirements:

• Cashier duties associated with admission sales/ticketing

• Provide visitor information about the aquarium and the local area

• Duties as assigned

• No minimum number of hours are guaranteed

• Weekend, Holiday and Evening work required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

This position requires cash handling and customer service experience and knowledge of basic computer skills.  Applicants must be articulate; have good communication skills, interact well with the general public and staff, and have excellent customer service skills. The successful candidate will be able to work in a pleasant manner with the public for long hours.

Education and Experience: 

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have cash handling experience.
