WEDDING INDUSTRY NAMES PIER A TOP VENUE

Soak in the ocean view when you say “I do” at Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head.
Thanks in part to a world-class view, the Facility Rentals Department at Jennette’s received yet another award for excellence from the wedding industry just last month. The pier earned a coveted Best of 2016 Wedding Spot Award for being a top venue based on popularity by millions of couples viewing Jennette’s page on the Wedding Spot web site.
Rentals Coordinator Michele Bunce and her two colleagues have dazzled hundreds of brides with the allure of an oceanfront wedding reception since the pier reopened in May of 2011. Under the direction of Bunce, the pier team has earned four awards from the industry as well as a mention from the popular Southern Bride & Groom blog just last week thanks to a submission by area photographer Courtney Hathaway.
According to Bunce, the pier’s secret to success is simple -- it’s all about the location of Jennette’s Pier and Oceanview Hall.
“In addition to its panoramic ocean views, it’s a beautiful room and doesn’t require a lot of decorations,” she said. Oceanview Hall features cathedral ceilings, heart of pine paneling, unique lighting including four large chandeliers and several dozen windows and doors framing the picturesque view of the Atlantic Ocean.
Bunce added that large, oceanside locations are somewhat limited along the Outer Banks although most to-be-wed couples prefer seaside nuptials.
“Wedding couples like the flexibility of getting married on the beach or pier deck with the ocean in the background,” she said. “Oceanview Hall also provides a back-up location in case if rain.”
The majority of Jennette’s customers get married on the north side of the pier with their toes in the sand. Once the ceremony is complete and the traditional photographs have been taken, the guests head to Oceanview Hall for the reception celebration.
The indoor, outdoor ceremony option certainly adds a level of comfort for those worried about the variable Outer Banks weather. Another factor that’s lured couples to Jennette’s is excellent customer service, according to reviews on The Knot and WeddingWire.
Bunce and her staff, Beth Pallett and Rachel Moser, have worked tirelessly to make wedding receptions the best they can be at Jennette’s Pier. So far, 335 couples have tied the knot at the pier. Often, several weddings are held over the course of a weekend during the season.
Therefore, the pier’s housekeeping staff and other departments have to work diligently to turn the room around for the next customers. Bunce always thanks pier staff for their efforts. It takes more than a handful of wedding professionals to make it all happen; caterers, decorators, florists, equipment rentals, officiants, photographers, planners and much more.
Vendors from near and far make each wedding reception special. Jennette’s has also won three additional awards; WeddingWire Couples’ Choice Award in 2016 and 2015, and Best of The Knot 2015. To learn more about pier rentals, go to www.jennettepier.net.
