The North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores, located five miles west of Atlantic Beach on North Carolina’s Crystal Coast. A living collection of over 4,000 animals in 93,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space attracts and engages over 380,000 visitors each year. The Aquarium is nestled in the Theodore Roosevelt Natural Area, a 273 acre protected maritime forest and marsh with views of Bogue Sound. The North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores is a unique place to visit and work.


As a member of an Aquarium exhibit team, the Exhibit technician participates in the design and development of aquatically themed exhibits and displays. Most projects require creativity, a high proficiency with computer graphics, attention to detail, file organization and good communication. Exhibit technician prepares posters, banners, printed and electronic media for materials including calendars, brochures and booklets, animal identification, signage, exhibit panels and promotional advertisements working with various Aquarium departments and vendors for special projects. The Exhibit technician also creates props for special event and educational programs. The technician will assist with creating, assembling, maintaining and repairing displays, signs, vinyl lettering, exhibit parts, replicated habitats, painting, lighting and interactive exhibits, purchasing project materials and exhibit inventories. This position requires the ability to work with a variety of materials and work with hand and power tools. Position requires climbing ladders and lifting large bulky items. The successful candidate should demonstrate initiative and the ability to perform in a fast-paced atmosphere working on simultaneous projects. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy is imperative to succeed in this

position, as is the ability to work in a team environment.

A skills assessment may be conducted during the interviewing process for this position


1. Demonstrated experience using PhotoShop, InDesign and Illustrator software.

2. Demonstrated experience creating graphic projects such as posters, brochures, ads, etc. for print and/or web use. (Show samples of work at interview)

3. Demonstrated experience working with hand and power tools.


Graduation from a four year college or university with a degree in design, applied art, or a closely related curriculum, and one year of experience in art or design; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
