DIVISION INFORMATION:

The mission of the North Carolina Aquariums is to inspire appreciation and conservation of North Carolina’s aquatic environments. This mission is achieved by attracting, retaining and developing a world class team of professionals; providing visitors with outstanding exhibits, experiences and customer service; practicing sustainability, internal customer service and fiscal responsibility; and working to save and restore aquatic species and habitats.

The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher, located 20 miles south of Wilmington, NC, in Kure Beach, overlooks the Atlantic ocean and Cape Fear river. A living collection of over 2,700 animals in 93,000 ft2 of exhibit space attracts and engages over 440,000 visitors each year. The Aquarium is surrounded by protected woodland, marsh and beach. Visitors often plan to stop at sites adjacent to the Aquarium – Fort Fisher State Recreation Area and historic Fort Fisher Civil War museum. Fort Fisher Aquarium is a unique place to visit, and work.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

**Position will function as Housekeeper for the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher**

This position reports directly to the Building Superintendent and provides general housekeeping duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, removal of trash, cleaning windows, cleaning restrooms and general policing of the facility. This position is also responsible for performing light maintenance work such as changing light bulbs, painting, finishing drywall, cleaning roof drains, care of grounds to include mowing, raking, removing unwanted brush, assisting in cleaning entrance roadsides, and assisting with groundskeeping tasks where needed. Additional responsibilities will be to assist the aquarium’s electrician and plumber in the operation and maintenance of the building’s mechanical systems, i.e., HVAC, boiler, plumbing and lighting. Must be available to work weekends and evenings, have valid NC driver’s license, lift and carry 75 lbs. and be able to work with strong chemicals. Evening, weekend and holiday work may be required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

1. Experience operating electrical power tools and carpentry hand tools.

2. Experience with housekeeping (such as office, business or commercial cleaning).

3. Experience with grounds maintenance.

4. Ability to read and comprehend detailed instructions and directions, maintenance and procedural manuals, codes, regulations and safety sheets.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Education and/or experience in the performance of a variety of manual tasks that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade equivalent to one year of experience.
