Job Title: Husbandry Technician/Assistant Aquarist
Salary: $11.32 per hour
Closing Date: Jan. 29, 2014
*This is an hourly position with a maximum of 32 hours per week. It is classified as temporary/part-time and does not include state benefits.
Primary duties for this position include assisting and coverage responsibilities for full-time husbandry staff personnel, including aquarists, herpetologist, aviculturist and horticulturist. Responsibilities will include maintenance and cleaning of exhibits, holding tanks and behind the scenes areas, preparation of food and feeding animals, water chemistry analysis, public speaking and interaction with visitors, record keeping and acquisition of new animals.This position may require work in humid, hot, wet and outdoor conditions. Weekend and holiday work will be a large component of this position, and occasional evening work may be required. The ability to lift 50 pounds, bend over, climb, swim and perform physical labor is required.
Training and Experience
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in biology, zoology, botany, or other natural science curriculum, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a natural science field. A valid driver’s license is required. An open water SCUBA certification is preferred.
