Division Information:

The mission of the North Carolina Aquariums is to inspire appreciation and conservation of North Carolina’s aquatic environments. This mission is achieved by attracting, retaining and developing a world class team of professionals; providing visitors with outstanding exhibits, experiences and customer service; practicing sustainability, internal customer service and fiscal responsibility; and working to save and restore aquatic species and habitats.

The North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores is located 6 miles from Morehead City, NC, on Bogue Banks, sits adjacent to Bogue Sound. A living collection of over 2,500 animals in 90,000 square feet of exhibit space attracts and engages over 400,000 visitors each year. The Aquarium is located in the middle of Roosevelt Natural Area, a state park of maritime forest and wetland ecosystems.

Description of Work:

Works with the Security Chief and is a member of the Customer Services Team under the leadership of the Visitor & Member Services Coordinator. The primary responsibility of this position includes ensuring the safety and security of all staff and visitors, the Aquarium facility, exhibits, animal collection and work areas. Provides front-line customer services to all visitors; greets school and bus tour groups, assists with parking and unloading of groups, provides information and assistance to visitors; handles visitor complaints and problems; offers first aid as needed; identifies safety issues, maintains visitor accident log, investigates visitor accidents and injuries; opens and secures building at the beginning and end of each day; provides presence in giftshop and admissions area to deter shoplifting and theft; provides special events and after-hours facility rental security. Weekend, holiday and evening work will be required.

A skills assessment may be conducted during the interviewing process for this position.

1. Demonstrated experience in security operations in a zoo, aquarium, museum or other tourist attractions.

2. CPR and First Aid certification/experience.

3. Demonstrated customer service experience.

4. Demonstrated experience with safety and accident processes in a zoo, aquarium, museum or other tourist attractions.


Graduation from high school or GED equivalency and one year of experience in security work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
