School-age youngsters make up a large part of aquarium visitors – as many as 18,000 to 20,000 each year. Most visit between March and May. The Aquarium asks that groups register at least two weeks in advance. This allows the Aquarium to schedule group visits in a timely manner so students have a more enjoyable experience. In addition, calling ahead provides a better opportunity to take advantage of a number of school group activity options. With prior notice, a special marine life video, live animal program, field trip experience or other activity may be arranged. Groups can book an aquarium visit for any time of year, however, the Aquarium begins booking spring school group visits in January.
North Carolina school groups that register in advance are admitted free. Non-registered groups can be charged the standard admission rate. If the building is filled to capacity, a non-registered “drop-in” group may be asked to wait outside until more space is available.
If your school group can’t come to the Aquarium or would like to extend
your visit, let the Aquarium come to you! Click here for more information on our Outreach Program.
