For high school students ages 14-17, the Aquarium offers a junior volunteer program. Teens genuinely interested in marine biology and aquatic science are encouraged to apply.
Junior volunteers provide valuable assistance to Aquarium staff and contribute to a variety of visitor experiences including touch tank interactions, sea turtle education, and aquatic crafts.
Applicants selected to participate in this program work with Aquarium staff and experienced volunteers in the education department. This gives junior volunteers the opportunity to learn about the Aquarium and explore areas of personal interest.
Junior volunteers must commit to a minimum of 8-10 hours each month for six months. Junior volunteers gain opportunities and earn responsibilities as they complete specific training. Participation in this program provides experience that may aid teens with future education and employment possibilities in marine biology and aquatic science.
Volunteers for this program are selected through a competitive application process. Click here to complete the application to become a junior volunteer. If you have any questions regarding the junior volunteer program, please contact the Education Department at (910) 458-8257 ext. 237.
