Husbandry Unpaid Internship

Summer Unpaid Husbandry Internship

NC Aquarium on Roanoke Island

Application Deadline: March 15th, 2020

Come join the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island’s husbandry team this summer!

We are located in Manteo on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Join us for a 10-week experience learning valuable skills to care for aquatic and terrestrial animals. Some of the animals in our care include sharks, stingrays, sea turtles, alligators, otters, and over 100 species of fish.

Work alongside husbandry staff to care for a variety of fish, invertebrates, reptiles, amphibians, and plants. Interns will learn to maintain water quality and understand the operations of major salt and freshwater aquarium systems. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) testing water chemistry, preparing food, feeding animals, cleaning filters and exhibits, creating enrichment activities for animal welfare, making saltwater, watering plant areas, learning to observe animal behaviors, and operating major aquarium systems including quarantine, holding and display tanks. Additional responsibilities may be assigned. This is a great opportunity to gain field experience in marine biology. Internships are 40 hours a week for a 10-week period during the summer. Starting dates are flexible based on when your spring semester ends. This is an unpaid internship.

An applicant must have one year of college courses completed and must be self-motivated, a good communicator, and able to work well independently or in a group.
