The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher located 20 miles south of Wilmington, NC, in Kure Beach, overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and Cape Fear river. A living collection of over 2,700 animals in 93,000 ft2 of exhibit space attracts and engages over 440,000 visitors each year. The Aquarium is surrounded by protected woodland, marsh and beach. Description of Work:
The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher is seeking an energetic, enthusiastic individual to help share the story of pollinators, in particular the small-to medium-sized parrot, the lorikeet! This individual must be engaging and excited to join a team of professionals focused on educating the public about conservation and the importance of these exotic birds.
The attendants will greet guests entering and exiting the exhibit, ensure all birds remain inside of the exhibit at all times, enforce all exhibit policies, and provide information about lorikeets to visitors. Attendants will collect and sell admission tickets as well as cups of food for the birds and carry out cash/credit card transactions using an electronic point of sale system.
Other duties as assigned but not limited to: cleaning and maintaining the exhibit area, assist in feeding exhibit animals, and light horticulture work.
Applicants must be articulate; have good communication skills, interact well with the general public and staff, and have excellent customer service skills. Applicants must be eager to learn about lorikeets and their habitats and be able to share that knowledge with Aquarium visitors. Qualified candidates will have a high tolerance for summer outdoor temperatures, as this position is primarily outdoor.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
This position requires cash handling and customer service experience and knowledge of basic computer skills.
Education and Experience:
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
