Beginning Nov. 1, admission fees at North Carolina aquariums will be reduced for patrons presenting an Electronic Benefits Transfer, or EBT, card along with a valid form of photo identification.

The three North Carolina Aquariums have joined forces with other top aquariums across the country to create the Aquarium Conservation Partnership (ACP) which recently launched the “In Our Hands” campaign to address one of the gravest threats facing ocean and freshwater animals – plastic pollution.

The North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores is scheduled to release 27 sea turtles 50 miles off the coast, Oct. 18. Many of the sea turtles being released are participants of the sea turtle loan program, which allows several aquariums across the nation to participate in the care of this endangered species.

North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores was awarded the Association of Zoos and Aquariums 2017 education award for an organization of its size. The Aquarium was specifically recognized for significant achievement in the establishment of its one-of-a-kind Aquarium Teen Ambassadors Program.

The event held Sept. 28, saw 200 people and raised $8,000 to help save the vaquita porpoise, similar to but smaller than the dolphin, which is nearing extinction with fewer than 30 remaining in the world.
