Outdoor Adventure Programs

NEW! Cape Lookout Exploration

Escape to the Cape this summer. Aquarium naturalists lead a Cape Lookout Exploration every Friday throughout the summer. The excursion, by boat and on foot, highlights the flora, fauna, geographic features and interwoven human history of the National Seashore’s wild shores.

The trip covers soundside sands, fringing marshes, the island interior and the ocean beach. The boat passage to and from the Cape is integral to the adventure, as experienced guides share local lore and point out landmarks.

The trek is suitable for children ages 8 and up as well as adults. The ferry boats leave from Harkers Island, and the fare is covered in the $25 program fee. Participants should bring a picnic lunch, water and other necessities.

Departure time depends on the tide so be sure to check in before heading to Harkers Island. Space is limited, advance registration is required and closed-toe shoes are a must.

Plan ahead –advance registration is required.  Call the Aquarium Registrar at 252-247-4003, ext. 257 to register and to check availability. All programs require closed-toe shoes — view complete registration guidelines.
