This week at the Aquarium – Pine Knoll Shores


Giant sand sculpture salutes Penguin Plunge exhibit!

A whimsical depiction of penguins at play will be at the entrance for several weeks, weather permitting.

New exhibit

Penguin Plunge- Meet the Aquarium’s special summer visitors – four African penguins. Watch Suki, Sly, South and Oswald waddle and swim while you learn more about how you can help penguins worldwide, and wildlife closer to home.

Themed days

Turtle Tuesdays - Come out of your shell and find out more about the many species of turtles that live in North Carolina. Crafts, programs, encounters and displays feature freshwater turtles and sea turtles. Activities are free with admission or membership.

 

Fin-Filled Fridays – Enjoy a frenzy of fun and facts about the ocean’s top predators – sharks – with creature features, encounters, displays and photo ops. Activities are free with admission or membership.

Special program

Winging It – Birds in Flight – Send your spirits soaring with native raptors and shorebirds swooping overhead, delivering conservation messages a long with family-friendly entertainment. 1 p.m. daily; tickets $4 in addition to admission.

1 p.m. – 2 p.m. Meet our otter keepers and help them prepare special enrichment items that river otters Eno, Neuse and Pungo will enjoy  during their feeding. Sound Seafood: Catching Crabs and Clams
2 p.m. – 4 p.m. Learn the art of harvesting crabs and clams, and the importance of conserving coastal habitats. Ages 5 and up. $20. Reserve now!

Dinner with the Critters
6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Enjoy pizza, learn about animal care and see what it’s like to feed the animals in the invertebrate touch pool. Ages 5 and up. $20. Reserve now!

Aquarium ABC’s
8:30 a.m. -9:30 a.m.- Preschoolers  love learning about aquatic species and wildlife with live animal encounters, crafts to bring home, storytelling and outdoor explorations. Ages 2-5. $10. Reserve now!

Summer day camps combine fun and learning with hands on, feet-wet experiences for children and youths entering grades 2-8. $250 per camper.
