Scout Badge Programs and Activities

 

 

Naturalist Merit Badge Program

 

Cost per Scout: $12
Cost per Chaperone: $8
Minimum number of participants: 10
Maximum number of participants: 25

 

In this program, Scouts learn what it means to be a naturalist. They
learn the difference between the terms venomous and poisonous. They learn about flyways, explore the salt marsh and learn about a variety of poisonous plants. They see live animals in a classroom presentation and in our exhibits, and also get hands-on experience using seine and dip nets.

 

9 a.m. - 9:20 a.m. Arrival and Orientation
We take a moment to introduce your group to the staff that will be conducting your program and to review the agenda.

 

9:20 a.m. – 10:20 a.m. Animal presentation
Learn about the habits and habitats of various reptiles and amphibians of North Carolina with this live animal presentation.

 

10:20 a.m. -11 a.m. Tour exhibits of venomous creatures
Participants visit exhibits of the various Aquarium animals that could be hazardous to human health.

 

11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Salt Marsh Exploration
View the activities of marsh-dwelling animals and the variety of plants found in this rich environment. Includes seine and/or dip netting. All equipment is provided
