Haunted Waters at the Aquarium Oct. 25

Underwater pumpkin carving! Otters with jack-o’-lanterns! Faces that glow in the dark!

It will be a bewitching evening Thursday, Oct. 25, with “Trick-or-Treat Under the Sea” at the Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Ticket sales end at 8 p.m.

Children can trick-or-treat among the exhibits and galleries at decorated booths, sponsored by local businesses and organizations. People of all ages can enjoy other spooky fun throughout the evening.

The Aquarium’s unique puppet troupe performs at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., it’s trick or treat, otter-style, as the river otters amuse themselves with Halloween treats and toys. At 7:30 p.m., divers in the Living Shipwreck compete in an underwater pumpkin-carving contest.

Other activities include:

  • No Tricks, Just Treats! – games, prizes, face-painting and crafts.
  • The “Goo-Ew” Lab – hands-on experience in a mad scientist’s lab.
  • Get Inked! – act like an octopus; ink predators and suction prey.
  • Haunted Hike – mayhem on a marsh walk (for ages 10 and up.)

Drawings for prizes will be held throughout the night, and visitors will be singled out for the most creative costumes.

To get ready for the evening, the Aquarium closes at 3 p.m. and reopens at 5 p.m. Admission after 5 p.m. is $5 p er person for ages 3 and up; children ages 2 and under are admitted free.

Aquarium Society memberships, discounted tickets, complimentary passes and admission paid before 5 p.m. cannot be used in lieu of the $5 per person charge for this special event. Proceeds support Education programs at the Aquarium.
