Aquarium’s Spooky Pre-Halloween, Oct. 25

The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher will host its “Trick-or-Treat Under the Sea” from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007. Ticket sales will end at 7:45 p.m.

The aquarium will close at 2:30 p.m. on the day of the event to accommodate the installation of Trick-or-Treat sponsors’ booths, then will reopen at 5 p.m. to welcome guests to Trick-or-Treat Under the Sea.

Now in its sixth year, the event provides a chance to show off Halloween costumes a little early and have fun with indoor trick-or-treating as well. Trick-or-treating stations, sponsored by local businesses and other organizations, will be distributed throughout the aquarium.

The evening will be packed with aquatically themed Halloween entertainment for all ages, including a haunted house with pirates, ghost stories, and a variety of “scary” surprises. The atmosphere will be fun, safe and family-oriented.

This year’s event introduces a number of new attractions, including “Salt Marsh-ians” (think Roswell among the oyster-beds) and “Bats at the
Beach,” a presentation based on a popular and unusual children’s book.

And, as in previous years, younger visitors will enjoy their own, non-scary fun house.

Skeleton and Gator

Last year’s festivities attracted more than 2,000 revelers, many dressing as jellyfish, sharks, turtles, crabs, and other aquatic creatures.

General admission will be $6, with discounted admission of $5 for N.C. Aquarium Society members. Children age two and under are free.

Advance ticket are available. For information, call 910-458-8257.

Proceeds from admissions and booth fees will help fund the purchase of a new Outreach vehicle for the Aquarium’s education department. The Outreach program enables Aquarium staff to take environmental education programs to classrooms, civic groups and other audiences throughout the state.

Because of space restrictions, the aquarium can admit only “umbrella” strollers during the event.
