We have many opportunities for groups to learn about marine environments! The following are just a few of our fee-based programs. To register and for more information about these activities, contact our Special Activities Coordinator or call (252) 475-2327.

Sleeping with the Sharks

Camp out in front of our 285,000-gallon Graveyard of the Atlantic exhibit as sharks and fishes swim close by. This overnight experience is for private groups only, and participants must be ages 6 and older. A non-refundable deposit is required to reserve an evening of Sleeping with the Sharks.

Marine Labs and Dissections

A minimum of 10 students is required for the following programs.

Marine Invertebrate Lab
Moving from one station to another, students work in groups to investigate live animal specimens such as sea stars, horseshoe crabs and hermit crabs, in search of telltale clues that provide answers to a quiz. Grades 3 and up.

Squid Dissection
Students investigate the external and internal anatomy of squid in this introductory dissection. Taxonomy, mollusks and by-catch are also discussed. Grades 4 and up.

Shark Dissection
Working in groups of four, students take an up-close look at a dogfish shark to investigate external and internal shark anatomy. An introduction includes the use of video, biofacts and other mediums. Grades 6 and up.
