Biologists in Training Test the Waters

Testing the Waters – Local teens participating in the Biologists in Training program this summer have been learning about all aspects of animal care at the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island. Their most recent task was water chemistry monitoring, a process where water samples from each aquatic exhibit are tested for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels. With help from aquarist Emily Waldron, program leaders Kate Davison (second from left) and Leslie Vegas guided participants through the tests, which are important to maintaining the health and well-being of the animals in the care of NCARI.
