Roanoke Island What's New

Celebrate our toothy friends on International Shark Awareness Day!

Sharks play an important role in the health of the ocean, and on July 14, guests at the NC Aquarium on Roanoke Island can help celebrate these fascinating fish! Shark Awareness Day is a chance to take a closer look at an amazing animal that sometimes gets a bad break.

From Shark Trivia to Ring-a-Toss, participants can play fun games, win prizes and find out more about sharks. Want to learn how to identify shark species by the shape of their fin? Play FIN-gerprint a Shark! Want a unique and cool souvenir? Make a shark-rubbing necklace! Neptune’s Theater will be alive with showings of shark documentaries on the big screen, and shark experts will share knowledge and cool facts about shark and the ways we are studying them and working to preserve their populations.

Also, keep an eye out for a visit by the NC Aquarium’s own “Sharkey!”

International Shark Awareness Day will take place Saturday, July 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is included with regular aquarium admission.
