Do you hear that rumbling in the distance? It’s not the sound of springtime thunderstorms or giant waves crashing, or even the phantom booms that sometimes haunt the Outer Banks. It’s the roar of prehistoric giants as dinosaurs return to the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island! This summer, the aquarium’s nature trail will be transformed into a Jurassic (and Cretaceous and Triassic) jungle populated by legendary reptiles of the past, and guests will be transported to a world lost in time.
Aquarium visitors can stand alongside life-size animated Triceratops and Stegosaurus and get face to face with Parasaurolophus and Ankylosaurus, then witness the power of the infamous Tyrannosaurus rex! Extra activities throughout the summer include special dinosaur-focused educational programming and a chance to leave your own dino footprints while walking in the steps of the giants.
This is the first time since 2015 that dinosaurs have returned to NCARI, and the excitement is already building. “There’s something almost fantasy-like about them, just because there’s nothing to compare them to today,” said aquarium Director Maylon White. “It's thrilling to see them right there moving and making sounds and to imagine what they must have been like. It truly was another world.”
Dinosaurs return to the NC Aquarium on Roanoke Island from May 26 to September 4, 2018. The exhibit is included with regular admission. See them before they go extinct…again!
