Join us on January 15, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, for a free admission day! This is one of two free days the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island offers. During your visit, enjoy a presentation by the Pea Island Preservation Society.
"Freedmen, Surfmen, Heroes: The Unique Story of the Pea Island U.S. Lifesaving Station," tells the historic and heroic story of the first all-black Life-Saving crew. Learn about the skills and tools that were used to rescue passengers and crews from shipwrecks off the Outer Banks while exploring this story's unique message of racial diversity, overcoming adversity, and the example the Pea Island crew continues to set for us today. Presentations will be held in Neptune's Theater at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
