Helpful Hints

The Aquarium staff wants to create a truly magical and educational experience for all of our visitors! Below are some helpful hints designed to make your visit as enjoyable as possible. We hope they help and that you come back for another visit.

1) Take your time.

2) Consider coming during the shoulder season
(Labor Day to Memorial Day)

3) Bring the family.

4) Add some programs to your visit.

5) Become a member.

Becoming a member of the North Carolina Aquariums offers many exciting benefits. Discounts, travel opportunities and free admission to all three North Carolina Aquariums, the North Carolina Zoo and over 150 other zoos and aquariums around the country are just a few of the advantages. Your membership contribution helps support the Aquarium’s mission. An individual membership is $30 and a family membership $50. For more information on membership or to join, click on the membership link to the left.

6) Get all the details.

When registering for programs, activities, or field trips, or when booking a group, be sure to read full details on your confirmation letter so you will be prepared for an enjoyable experience.

7) For visitor safety, shoes are required in the building, and most Aquarium field trips require close-toed shoes.

8) Check our calendar of events prior to your visit to see what programs are offered.

9) Avoid the rainy day visit.

Rainy days at the beach are never fun and the Aquarium seems like a natural choice for such a day. If you do plan to visit on a rainy day, please keep in mind that other visitors to the area probably had the same idea and the Aquarium is likely to be very crowded.

10) Be aware that spring time brings school groups.

School-age youngsters make up a large part of Aquarium visitors - as many as 18,000 to 20,000 each year. Most visit between March and May.  Most school groups come in the morning so when you are planning your visit keep this in mind.
