Position: Unpaid Exhibits Intern

Location: NC Aquarium on Roanoke Island

Duration: 10 week positions (start/end dates are flexible)
Minimum of 20 hours per week
Some evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required

Qualifications: Applicants need to have a positive attitude, ability to work effectively in a team environment and possess a willingness to learn. Backgrounds in graphic design, exhibit design, multimedia design, carpentry, handiwork, sewing, interior design or architecture are all pluses. Ability to use a PC Windows based computer and graphic design software, along with a passion for marine life and conservation is also a plus.

Job Description: Assist staff with Aquarium exhibit designs, multimedia and graphics. These opportunities may include facilitating and coordinating projects involving exhibits, interior design, exterior projects, signage, the appearance of public spaces, archiving historic materials, data entry and short term and long range planning. Design interns must be prepared to bring new and creative ideas with them that will benefit the Aquarium.

Interns may be responsible for a variety of Exhibits-based duties including: working with and maintaining exhibit tools/printing and sign production equipment, creating and installing signs, graphic or multimedia design for exhibits and marketing pieces, exhibit installation and maintenance (which may include painting and basic carpentry work). Prefer prior experience working in an aquarium, zoo or museum setting, ability to use office and design software (AdobeTM Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, Word Processing), ability to use a SLR digital camera, and ability to lift 50 lbs.
