The mission of the North Carolina Aquariums is to inspire appreciation and conservation of North Carolina’s aquatic environments. The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher located 20 miles south of Wilmington, NC, in Kure Beach, overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and Cape Fear river. A living collection of over 2,700 animals in 93,000 ft2 of exhibit space attracts and engages over 440,000 visitors each year. The Aquarium is surrounded by protected woodland, marsh and beach. Visitors often plan to stop at sites adjacent to the Aquarium - Fort Fisher State Recreation Area and historic Fort Fisher Civil War museum. Fort Fisher Aquarium is a unique place to visit, and work.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position reports directly to the Business Manager and provides support in daily accounting, purchasing, personnel and clerical operating procedures as assigned. The Office Assistant is responsible for maintaining and reconciling weekly purchasing card charges and monthly statements for 23 cardholders, general knowledge and understanding of term contract specifications and how to access contract information. Personnel duties consists of new employee orientations, updating employee records, assisting employees with benefit questions, and the BEACON time system. Must be able to maintain confidentiality when dealing with personnel matters; must remain patient and accommodating when dealing with public and staff. Responsible for maintaining and ordering facility office supplies and serves as backup to the receptionist for answering multi-line phone system. Must be able to form and maintain good working relationships with other State agencies. May require occasional weekend work depending on Aquarium events throughout the year.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

In order to qualify for this position you must meet ALL the following KSA's listed below:
1. Experience with purchasing procedures
2. Experience with bookkeeping and accounting practices
3. Experience with Human Resources practices and procedures.
4. Customer service experience, including answering a multi-line telephone system.
5. Experience with MS Word, Excel.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
