Welcome to Turtle Trails

North Carolina Aquariums exhibit and rehabilitate loggerhead sea turtles

This project uses satellite transmitters attached to juvenile loggerhead sea turtles to follow their movements after rehabilitation and release from the North Carolina Aquariums. Join us as we travel the ocean and sounds with loggerheads as our guides!

This site is totally dedicated to the threatened sea turtle species, Caretta caretta (a.k.a. loggerheads). Loggerheads get their name from their massive heads. Your head would have a diameter of 3 feet if it were the same proportion as a loggerhead’s head. (If you find this hard to believe, test it out yourself!)
