Dr. Matthew H. Godfrey
Ph.D., NCWRC Sea Turtle Program Coordinator
Dr. Matthew Godfrey earned his Ph.D. and M.Sc. degrees in Zoology from the University of Toronto. As the NCWRC Sea Turtle Program Coordinator, he is responsible for coordinating the sea turtle management and conservation program in NC. Dr. Godfrey has over 10 years of experience with marine turtles. He co-founded the Society for Research, Rehabilitation and Reintroduction of Wild Animal Species (CEPER), Bahia, Brazil. Dr. Godfrey is the lead author of eight peer-reviewed publications, and co-author of nine peer-reviewed publications on sea turtle biology and conservation. In addition, Dr. Godfrey is co-author of a book chapter on nesting behavior and loggerhead hatchling development. He has presented numerous papers and posters at scientific meetings.
Dr. Craig Harms
DVM, Ph.D., Diplomate ACZM, Research Assistant Professor, North Carolina State University/College of Veterinary Medicine
Dr. Craig Harms, DVM, Ph.D., and Diplomate of the American College of Zoological Medicine is a Research Assistant Professor at NCSU/CVM, specializing in aquatic animal health. Dr. Harms has extensive experience rehabilitating sea turtles at the NC Aquariums and the Topsail Turtle Hospital. He is lead author on the only study examining clinical pathology values for rehabilitating sea turtles.
Ms. Millie Overman
N.E.S.T. Coordinator
Millie Overman is co-founder and coordinator of the Network for Endangered Sea Turtles (N.E.S.T.) volunteer organization. Even while working full time as a salon owner/stylist, Ms. Overman has spent countless hours patrolling beaches, monitoring sea turtle nests, training volunteers, and assisting with sea turtle rehabilitation efforts.
Joanne E. Harcke
M.S., Conservation and Research Coordinator, North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island
Joanne Harcke earned her M.S. degree in Zoology from North Carolina State University, and is the Conservation and Research Coordinator at the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island. Ms. Harcke is responsible for the aquarium's Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Facility, and supervises the treatment and care of rehabilitating animals. She is a member of the American Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA) Sea Turtle Working Group, and the NC Herpetological Society.
Dia Hitt
Marine Educator, North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island
Dia Hitt received her B.S. degree in Genetics and a B.S. degree in Ecology from Purdue University, and is currently a Marine Educator at the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island. Although Ms. Hitt considers herself a "mammal" person, since moving to NC she come to enjoy learning and teaching the public about sea turtles.
