Aquarium Adventures

Join the N.C. Aquariums for a virtual adventure!

Enhance your school year with interactive science-based lessons, creative crafts, STEM activities, and more virtual learning experiences. Students will receive a program kit and have the opportunity to virtually visit all four North Carolina Aquarium sites - Fort Fisher, Pine Knoll Shores, Roanoke Island and Jennette’s Pier - where they will learn about coastal habitats and how to protect them, visit Aquarium exhibits, and meet a few animal ambassadors along the way!

Every Wednesday in October at 1 p.m.
Ages: k-2, 3-5, and 6-8
Cost: $90 per screen; $30 each additional kit

Fort Fisher          

Watch and learn as an Aquarium educator shares more about the animals cared for by the N.C. Aquarium at Fort Fisher. Discover how we help to save these species in the wild. Each week, a new topic will be discussed. Open to all audiences.   

Topics include: Whales, amphibians, and sea turtles

Roanoke Island   

Join us online to meet some of our animal ambassadors! Or you can sign up for some of our special topics and programs not normally seen including beach finds 101 and programs on quirky marine life. Come learn and play with us online at the Aquarium!      

Topics include: Lizards, tarantula and sea turtles.

Jennette’s Pier

Join Jennette’s Pier educators and collect plankton or dive under the pier to discover fish and create your own origami fish! 

Virtual Behind the Scenes

BEHIND THE SCENES: BIRD TRAINING AND ENRICHMENT at Pine Knoll Shores

Learn all about the Aquarium avian ambassadors as Aquarium staff virtually guide some of our birds through their daily training and enrichment activities.
Participants will learn about each birds personal story as well as basic training methods staff utilize to help provide the best care possible for out feathered friends.

BEHIND THE SCENES: SEA TURTLE CONSERVATION at Pine Knoll Shores

Join Aquarium staff for a interactive virtual behind the scenes experience focused on sea turtle conservation and rehabilitation.
Learn how coastal communities are working together to help protect these amazing animals as you explore the Aquariums quarantine labs and holding areas behind the scenes.

BEHIND THE SCENES: SEA TURTLES at Fort Fisher

Go totally turtle with this exclusive look behind the scenes. Discover all we do to provide the best care for the turtles living at the Aquarium. Each tour includes several species from land to sea. Learn how our turtles serve as animal ambassadors teaching others about wild reptiles and how you can help to protect our shelled neighbors.

BEHIND THE SCENES: SAVING SPECIES at Fort Fisher

Go behind-the-scenes for an exclusive look at how the Aquarium helps save species. Learn about our sand tiger shark research, raising and releasing Carolina gopher frogs, growing corals, and larval fish. Recommended for ages 7 and up.

BEHIND THE SCENES at Roanoke Island

Accompany an Aquarium educator on a sneak peek behind the scenes of different areas in the Aquarium. Visitors will see the exhibits, the systems that keep them working, and see the Aquarium from a side normally only viewed by staff.

BEHIND THE SCENES: Quarantine Tour at Roanoke Island

Have you ever wondered where our animals come from and how they get to the Aquarium? Learn how as you experience a tour of the Aquarium quarantine building, led by an Aquarium educator. This exclusive opportunity exposes visitors to our animal hospital and holding area

Private Virtual Animal Cameos

These private virtual cameos allow for only you and your group to ask questions from the comfort of your home or office while seeing select animal ambassadors who are ready for their close-ups!

Fort Fisher: Alligator, Turtle, Snake, Salamander, or Sea star
Pine Knoll Shores: Sun Conures, Vulture, Snake, Sea Turtle, Owl, or Alligator
Roanoke Islands: Owl, Sea Turtle, Possum, or River Otters.

Virtual Story Time

Cozy up for an animal tale read by an Aquarium educator. After the story, meet a live animal and engage in fun activities. Recommended for ages 2-5, but family members welcome.
