Summer Interns at the Aquarium

Haven Guinn, Summer Intern

I am Haven Guinn. I am interning in the education department at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher this summer. I am from Red Springs, North Carolina, and a rising senior at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. My major is biology with a double concentration in zoology and environmental science. Part of my job this summer is helping with the different programs that the aquarium offers, like the habitat chats, otter enrichments, and creature features. I also get to help introduce the animal ambassadors to visitors. I am looking forward to learning from the education team this summer.

Taylor Hayes

I am Taylor Hayes—one of the summer education interns at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher. I graduated from Coastal Carolina University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in marine science and a minor in psychology. I have always been interested in marine life and how to help ensure we have these species for generations to come. At the Aquarium, I am working on the education team with onsite programs which include ambassador animal encounters, talking about animal enrichment implemented by our husbandry staff, and encouraging visitor interest in ways they can help our oceans and marine life. I am looking forward to an eventful and educational summer!

Becca Fox - Summer InternHi, my name is Becca Fox! I am from Cullowhee, North Carolina, and a rising senior at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, North Carolina. I run track and cross country, work with our career center and Learning Commons as an academic coach. I am pursuing a Bachelor of Science in environmental science with a minor in biology. In the future, I hope to go into informal science education or wildlife biology research, and plan to get a Master of Wildlife Biology. When I’m not running or working on schoolwork, you can find me hiking, backpacking, or whitewater canoeing. This summer, I’m working with the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher as a special activities intern. I am learning so much about how the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources works and am so excited to help with our summer camp programs, behind-the-scenes tours, and animal encounters at the aquarium!
