Ahead of the OCEARCH's 45th ocean research expedition, NCAFF joined the global non-profit for a community event focused on their unprecedented shark research. Expedition Northbound embarks from Wrightsville Beach, NC April 17 and a large group came out to support their crew at Waterman's Brewing Company Sunday, April 16. Folks gained a greater understanding of the importance of sharks, while supporting shark research. Waterman’s Brewing Company donated a $1 per pint sold to support OCEARCH’s shark research. Among the fun, children at the event enjoyed a shark tooth dig and music by Sea Songs for Little Pirates compliments of Jason Andre Music.
The evening also included an all-star cast of shark experts — world renowned waterman and OCEARCH Fishing Master Captain Brett McBride, leading shark scientist and OCEARCH’s Chief Veterinarian Harley Newton, VMD, Dipl. ACVP and North Carolina Aquariums Chief Veterinarian Emily Christiansen, DVM, MPH, Dipl. ACZM. The team, along with other OCEARCH crew and Hap Fatzinger, NCAFF director fielded questions and shared insights about sharks and their valuable role in the ocean.
