This is an hourly temporary position. This position will work a flexible work schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.  Hours vary seasonally.  It is classified as temporary/part-time and does not include state benefits. Recommended applicant will be subject to a background check.

The mission of the North Carolina Aquariums is to inspire appreciation and conservation of our aquatic environments. The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher, located 20 miles south of Wilmington, NC, in Kure Beach, overlooks the Atlantic ocean and Cape Fear river. A living collection of over 2,700 animals in 93,000 ft2 of exhibit space attracts and engages over 440,000 visitors each year. The Aquarium is surrounded by protected woodland, marsh, and beach. Visitors often plan to stop at sites adjacent to the Aquarium - Fort Fisher State Recreation Area and historic Fort Fisher Civil War Museum. Description of Work:

·       The primary responsibility of this position is answering multi-line phone system. Determining the nature and urgency of those calls and providing routine information to callers or directing calls to appropriate staff. This position is the primary point of contact for all office visitors.

·       Performs a wide variety of office and clerical duties to accomplish the processing of information, documents, and materials. Responsible for maintaining and ordering facility office supplies.

·       Position will operate a personal computer and use a variety of applications including Microsoft Office Suite.

·        Position utilizes a variety of office machines including, but not limited to, printers, copiers, calculators, and shredders. Individual in this position must maintain a high degree of accuracy and multi-task in a fast-paced office.

·        Personnel duties consists of new employee orientations, updating employee records, assisting employees with benefit questions, and the BEACON payroll system. Must be able to maintain confidentiality when dealing with personnel matters; must remain patient and accommodating when dealing with public and staff. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

·        Customer Service experience.

·        Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.

·        Experience handling human resources practices and procedures.

·        Experience interpreting and/or explaining policies, procedures, and laws.

Education and Experience:

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
