Bait, License, Rod Rentals

Bait, tackle, ice, soft drinks and snacks are available for sale in the pier house. Jennette's Pier maintains a blanket license to cover all fishing from the pier. Rent a rod and reel combo for $10 a day. Valid driver's license required.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS

Jennette's Pier is located on the oceanfront at milepost 16.5 of Nags Head in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

GPS: 35.910 N, 75.596 W

From Hampton Roads, Va. take VA-168 South continuing onto NC-168 South/Caratoke Hwy. Continue onto US-158 East (By-Pass) on the Outer Banks. After passing Tanger Outlet Mall take a left on East Gray Eagle Street then a right onto NC-12 (Beach Road). Jennette's Pier will be on the left.

From Raleigh, take US-64 East to Nags Head. Continue on US-64 East to NC-12/South Virginia Dare Trail (Beach Road). Jennette's Pier will be on the right.

From Hatteras Island, take NC-12 north to Whalebone Junction. At the light, turn right onto NC-12/South Virginia Dare Trail (Beach Road).  Jennette's Pier will be on the right. (Photo by Steve Fowler)

    Windy day

    It's a cool windy morning here at the pier.  A cloudy morning with strong winds.  Winds are from the SSW at 25 mph.  High tide is 5:32 p.m.  Low tide is at 11:38 a.m.  The current air temperature is 49 degrees, and the water temperature is 51 degrees.  No one is fishing yet.

    Joe and Joyce

    It's a beautiful, sunny morning today at the pier.  The winds and quite strong and will be increasing throughout the day.  The air temperature is in the upper 50's and the water temperature is 52 degrees.  High tide will be at 4:42 p.m. and Low tide is at 10:49 a.m.  Shad and puffers continue to be caught from the pier. Today, Joe and Joyce enjoyed their time together fishing.  Come on out and say hello!

    Puppy Drum Arrive

    Sunny but cold again with a fierce north wind at 19 knots. Several bus loads of students on a field trip are heading out to give it a go . Water temp 50 degrees, air temp 51. Some small surf rolling in. Low tide 10:01 High tide 3:05 p.m. A 28.5 inch PUPPY DRUM was landed and released last Saturday so maybe we'll see a few more soon (file photo).

    Afternoon update -- A NORTHERN PUFFER has been caught! North wind at 19 knots. Ocean water temp 50 degrees, air temp 49 at 9 a.m. Low tide 8:54 a.m. High tide 2:29 p.m.

    Windy and Cold

    Bundle up good if you plan to fish this morning! At least one SKATE has been decked and released. A hard north wind at 9 knots is raking across the ocean. Air temp 45 degree, water temp 51. Low tide 7:46 a.m. High tide 1:22 p.m. Come by "sea" what's swimming in our Aquariums!

    Foggy morning

    Cloudy, foggy and passing showers to start the day. No one fishing yet but the SHAD and PUFFERS have shown up! Check out Shylah from Durham who caught this NORTHERN PUFFER over the weekend. Air temp 56 degrees and water temp 51. Low tide 6:46 a.m. and high 12:25 p.m. Wind NE at 15 knots.

    Beautiful day here at the pier.  The water is calm and glassy.  Winds are very light from WSW.  High tide is at 11:36 a.m.  Low tide is at 5:42 p.m.   Come on out and enjoy this weather. George from Manteo is here catching shad.  Puffers are also being caught.

    Hauled Out

    Another bright, sunny day but cold and windy. No one fishing yet. Air temp 43 degrees, water temp 48. Winds NE at 19 knots. High tide 7:01 a.m. and low 1:23 p.m. Check out this grey seal pup that hauled out of the ocean to rest on Friday morning. Staff from the Pier responded to make sure the animal was ok. We are proud to be part of the Outer Banks Marine Mammal Stranding Network.     Atlantic Spadefish -- Brilliant sun and cold again today. Students on a field trip from Currituck are giving it a go but nothing to report yet. Water temp 47 degrees. Low tide 9:38 a.m. High tide 3:22 p.m. Winds N at 10 knots. These Atlantic spadefish can be viewed in our Pier Piling aquarium inside the pier house.
