The Aquarium offers certified SCUBA divers a unique and rewarding underwater experience. Volunteer divers inside the 306,000-gallon Living Shipwreck converse with visitors about the many animals gliding around a replica of the U-352, a famous World War II shipwreck. Volunteer divers also assist with other programs underwater, as well as help care for the animals and maintain the exhibits.


  • Must be a SCUBA diver, certified by a nationally recognized certification agency (an advanced certification with 20 logged dives is preferred). 
  • Must be willing to volunteer a full day (9AM – 4PM) once every two weeks, with a minimum commitment of one year. 
  • A volunteer Diver Physical Form must be completed and signed by a licensed physician. Upon being medically cleared to dive, volunteers perform a swim test with the Dive Safety Officer or Assistant Dive Safety Officer.
  • After Completeing the swim test, volunteers will perform a series of underwater SCUBA skills tests at the Aquarium. The Dive Safety Officer or Assistant Dive Safety Officer will then assess the diver's abilities and refresh basic SCUBA knowledge. 
  • Must be currently certified in CPR/First Aid.
  • Must be at least 18 years old, physically active and in good health. 
  • Must be willing to supply an Aquarium dive team wetsuit.
  • Must be team-oriented and willing to take direction.
  • Must have basic knowledge of marine life and be willing to learn about the Aquarium's exhibits and collection. 
  • Must be willing to dive with large marine animals, including sharks. 
  • Must be willing to perform general underwater cleaning duties,interact with the public and participate in public presentations.
